How to Play Waffle Word Game

Waffle Word Game is a free letter-swapping puzzle where six five-letter words fit together on a waffle-shaped grid. All 21 letters you need are already on the board.

Select one letter and then another to swap them, or drag a tile onto another. Complete three words across and three down in no more than 15 swaps. Green tiles are fixed clues; use the crossing letters to find the remaining words.

Waffle Rules

Each exchange between two unlocked positions uses one move, even when the letters match. Green letters cannot be moved. Yellow means the letter belongs elsewhere in one of the words through that tile; repeated letters are counted separately for each word. Gray means the letter needs another location.

Every published puzzle has a verified solution in 10 swaps or fewer. Finish in 10 moves for five stars, 11 for four, 12 for three, 13 for two, 14 for one, or 15 for a zero-star win. There is no timer. Another arrangement of six words from our accepted dictionary also wins.

Ask for a hint whenever you need one. It outlines a helpful exchange without spending a move or swapping the letters for you. After each swap, you can ask for the next hint. Hinted results are marked Assisted and do not count toward your best unassisted score.

Hints & Replay

Keep playing new puzzles whenever you like. Restart retries the same puzzle; New Puzzle chooses another one. Your current game is saved in this browser so you can return to it later.

Hints remain available throughout the puzzle. Swap the highlighted letters, then ask for another hint if you need help. When you finish, the result window shows your score and lets you start another puzzle, retry, share, or inspect the answer.

Tips & Strategy

Start with green letters: they are reliable clues to the words around them. Check intersections because a single letter belongs to two words.

A yellow letter can belong to either crossing word, so compare both before moving it. Look for exchanges that put both letters into place and save your five extra moves for the trickier corners.
