How to play Minesweeper
- Choose a difficulty and reveal a cell to start.
- Read the numbers: each counts mines in neighboring cells, including diagonals.
- Flag cells you believe contain mines. Right-click on desktop or hold a covered cell for half a second on a phone.
- Reveal every cell without a mine to win. You do not need to flag every mine.

What do the numbers mean?
Count all eight neighbors
The 1 in the center means exactly one of the eight surrounding cells contains a mine. Diagonal neighbors count too. The number alone does not tell you which cell contains it.
One possible mine
Here the center 1 has seven revealed neighbors and only one covered neighbor, marked with ?. That covered cell must contain the mine.
Find the safe cell
Here the center 1 already touches one confirmed mine, marked with ⚑. Its other covered neighbor, marked with ✓, is safe. A flag is only a reminder: this conclusion requires a correctly identified mine.
Minesweeper tips for beginners
- Start with the 9×9 board and compare neighboring clues before guessing.
- Subtract confirmed mines from a number to work out how many mines are still hidden around it.
- If you get stuck, check another edge of the revealed area. First-click protection does not guarantee a guess-free board.

Is Minesweeper free, with no download?
Yes. Play in your browser on desktop or mobile without downloading an app or creating an account.
How do I flag a mine on my phone?
Hold a covered cell for half a second to place or remove a flag. Tap briefly to reveal a cell.
Is the first click safe on OnlinePuzzle?
Yes. Your first revealed cell and its neighbors contain no mines. Mines are placed after your first reveal.
Do I need to flag every mine to win?
No. You win by revealing all cells without mines. Flags help you keep track of suspected mines but are not required to win.
What do the numbers mean?
A number counts mines in the cells directly touching it, including diagonals: up to eight neighbors. A 1 means exactly one of those neighbors contains a mine; it does not tell you which one.
When can I be certain a covered cell is a mine?
Subtract the mines you have already identified around a number. If the remaining count equals the number of other covered neighbors, all of those neighbors are mines. For example, a 2 with one confirmed mine and one other covered neighbor means that neighbor is a mine.
When is it safe to reveal neighboring cells?
Once every mine around a number has been correctly identified, its other neighbors are safe. Clicking an open number reveals its unflagged neighbors when the flag count matches the number. The game checks the count, not whether your flags are correct, so a mistaken flag can cause a loss.
Why do I sometimes have to guess?
Some boards leave several mine arrangements consistent with all visible numbers. Check other parts of the board first. If no certain move remains, a guess may be necessary: this game protects your first reveal and its neighbors but does not guarantee a guess-free board.
Can I continue later or switch language?
Yes, when the save status confirms success. The home page restores your saved board, and EN, ES and PT share the same game on this device. Finished games open with View result. Different devices and browsers do not share progress; clearing browser data deletes it.
How are my statistics calculated?
Games Played counts the first valid reveal, not flags or visits. Wins counts each completed board once. Best Time is your fastest victory in the selected difficulty. Refreshing or reopening a result does not count again.
Why does Expert look different on my phone?
The same 480 cells are arranged vertically on narrow screens so no columns are hidden off screen. Rotate the phone for the wide layout. Changing orientation does not restart the game. Arrow keys follow the visible layout; Enter or Space reveals, F flags and C opens eligible neighbors.
What if saving fails?
You can keep playing, but unsaved moves may be lost when you leave. Wait for the saved message before navigating. Reload to retry unavailable storage. A damaged board can be replaced with New game while valid history is preserved; an unreadable record is left unchanged.
