Protect your highest tile
Choose a corner and avoid moving your largest tile away unnecessarily. Check the whole board before a move that could disturb it.
Keep a useful order
Arrange larger tiles along an edge, with smaller values next to them. This helps you build merges towards your corner.
Leave room for the next tile
Check your empty cells and next possible merge. Taking a small score gain can be a mistake if it breaks your layout.
Learn with one-step undo
If a move blocks your next merge, undo it and compare another direction. Undo restores the previous board; it is not an unlimited history. No strategy guarantees a win.

Is 2048 free, with no download?
Yes. Play this classic 4×4 game free in your browser without downloading an app or creating an account.
Does a score of 2048 mean I have won?
No. You win by creating a tile numbered 2048. Your score is the sum of the values created by merges: combining two 4s makes an 8 and adds 8 points.
Why do four 2s not turn into an 8 in one move?
Each tile can merge only once per move. Four 2s slide into two 4s; those new 4s can merge on a later move.
Can I undo more than one move?
You can undo the last valid move once, including a move that ended the game when a previous board is available. Make another valid move to enable Undo again. Your best score and recorded milestones are not rolled back.
Is a full board always game over?
No. You can still play if matching tiles are adjacent horizontally or vertically. The game ends when no empty cells or possible merges remain.
Can I continue after reaching 2048?
Yes. Choose Keep playing to work towards 4096, 8192 and higher tiles. There is no time limit.
How do I play 2048 on my phone?
Swipe inside the board to move the tiles. You can also tap the direction buttons. Use Undo to reverse your last valid move after an accidental swipe.
Will my game be saved?
Your board, one-step undo and records are saved in this browser when storage is available. Clearing site data removes them. Saves do not automatically sync across devices.
